FAQ

Where do you get your ideas?

Inspiration is all around us, you just have to pay attention! Often, I get story ideas from things I’ve read or things I’ve seen on TV. I also get ideas from people I talk with, especially older family members. Every person out there is a walking, talking story!

What’s the best part of being a writer?

That’s easy: meeting my readers! I love talking with kids about not only my books, but the writing process, what books they enjoy reading, and what their own hopes and dreams are.

Will you write a sequel to any of your books?

Although it’s up to my publisher whether or not a book gets a sequel, I have so many stories in my head that want to be told, I’m not sure I have time to write sequels.

Are you rich?

I am rich in dog hair.

Do you have any pets?

Yes! I have a wonderfully sweet collie mix named Barney. Barney loves to hike and be as close to me as possible. I also have a three-year-old Scottish Collie named Piper (also known as Princess Crazypants). Piper loves trying to catch squirrels. She also loves her big brother, Barney.

Which one of your books is your favorite?

That’s a hard question! I love all my books for different reason. But truly, whatever book I’m writing has to be my favorite. I spend months and months living with that story 24/7, so I really have to love it and believe in it.

What’s your favorite color?

Purple!

Who’s your favorite author?

Kate DiCamillo.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing books?

I love being outdoors as much as I can. Whether it’s hiking, kayaking, camping, or working in my gardens, I am most at home outside. And of course, I love to read!
